SPAR Craic 10k – 2018
March 17, 2018
The fourth running of the SPAR Craic 10k took place on St Patrick’s morning as over 1200 runners braved the bitterly cold conditions to take to the streets of Belfast for the popular event.
Following on from the success of the previous three Spar Craic 10k races, the run linked West and East Belfast with the route passing through the Gaeltacht and Cathedral Quarters before finishing at Titanic Slipways.
The North Belfast Harriers claimed a big race double by winning both the male and female categories with Philip Goss and Gladys Ganiel finishing top of the podium.
Goss crossed the line with the time to 33.15 to second eight seconds clear of Noel McNally of Beechmount Harriers.
Steven McAlary of Springweel Running Club completed the podium by finishing with a time of 33.37 to take third.
Gladys Ganiel was a runaway winner of the ladies’ race after crossing the line with a time of 36.38 to finish 13th overall.
Sinead Sweeney of Queen’s University AC was second with a time of 37.26, while Gerrie Short from Beechmount Harriers was third after crossing the line in 37.54.
This year’s charity partner was Marie Curie and a donation from every entry was made to them.
Organisers of the cross-community event are already planning next year’s SPAR Craic 10k and are hoping for even more families to take part in what is swiftly becoming an essential beginning to the St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Belfast.
Each winner will get a £20 Pure Running voucher in the post!
