Walking Tour
Join us post-lunch for a walking tour of Cornell Tech and Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island. Cornell Tech is an investment in the future of New York city. The world-class tech destination partners with leading companies such as Tata, Bloomberg, and Verizon to foster innovation and research.
You will get the chance to stroll along Feeney Way at Cornell Tech, named in honour of Irish peace process hero and famed Irish American philanthropist Chuck Feeney. Cornell staff will host a short tour of the facilty.
A prolific donor to universities in Ireland and the US, Feeney contributed $350m to the establishment of Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island. In total his Atlantic Philanthropies invested $8bn – his entire fortune – in good causes.
You will also meet New York City Parks staff at Four Freedoms Park on the island. Its name derives from a January 6, 1941 speech delivered by President Roosevelt, in which he described his vision for a world founded on four essential human freedoms: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
The park was designed by famed architect Louis I. Kahn.
Our group will travel to the island at 3pm by subway and return by sky tram – expected duration of visit is two hours and thirty minutes.
This is event is only available to registered delegates of the New York New Belfast Conference Luncheon.
