On 12-13 June 2013 Belfast set out its stall in the Big Apple at the Belfast Media Group/Irish Echo’s fourth annual New York-New Belfast conference, held at the prestigious Fordham University.
The conference spotlighted the bridges of progress and prosperity being built between the citizens of the two great cities of New York and Belfast, looking optimistically to the future while celebrating our shared past. The conference culminated in the sixth annual Irish Echo Top Companies luncheon, honoring 50 top companies with operations in the US and Ireland.
Belfast’s delegation of community, cultural and business leaders, which included Belfast Lord Mayor, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, met with their New York counterparts to discuss investment, imbedding the peace, tourism, the arts and how they can work together to the mutual benefit of Ireland and America.
Highlights included Liam Neeson, who stopped by on Wednesday evening to wish NYNB delegates well, the wonderful children’s author and illustrator, Oliver Jeffers, Daniel Libeskind, who presented his plans for the new peace centre at Maze-Long Kesh, The Top Companies luncheon addressed by Patrick Anderson of Dalradia, a visit to the inspiring Brooklyn Navy Yards led by Commissioner for Small Business Services NYC, Rob Walsh, and of course the finale reception at the residence of the Irish Consul General in New York.
