Tour of the former Domino Sugar Refinery – NYNB 19
Tour of Domino Park, Brooklyn
Friday 14 June
(Bus will leave Pier A at 2:30pm)
Rob Walsh of Manhattan College, a former Small Business Commissioner of New York City, will lead delegates on a walking tour of Domino, former sugar refinery, now urban park and mixed-use development in Brooklyn, New York, in the company of Domino architect, urbanist and author of ‘A Country of Cities’, Vishaan Chakrabarti. Vishaan founded the Practice for Architecture and Urbanism and is an Associate Professor of Practice at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
The revitalisation of the former sugar refinery is one of the most inspirational and audacious restoration projects ever undertaken in New York and provides a blueprint for city rebirth. The first stage has seen the creation of a public park on the waterfront while the refinery will house a glass-barrel 380,000 sq ft office space and nearby residential space developed by Vishaan’s PAU.
